Chevy Traverse won’t shift to park

You might be concerned when you Chevy Traverse indicates that it cannot shift to park.  Generally this manifests as the car actually shifting to park but the computer not realizing that it has.  However, the car won’t fully power down without the computer recognizing also the shift to park.

The issue occurs due to a connection not being made in the gear shift.  One common temporary workaround is to continually click and release the gear shift button.  Once the connection is made on one of those taps the error warning will go away (which is how you’ll know it worked).

Unfortunately the actual fix is a replacement of the switch that resides below the gear shift which will run you $400 after parts and labor.

This generally affects the post 2018 Traverse models.

Common iOS Error Messages and Fixes

Here are some common iOS error messages and fixes to those issues:

It should be noted, restarting your iOS device is always a good first step.  It sounds cliche, but it wouldn’t be cliche if not for a reason.

  1. “Unable to Verify Update” error message: This error message usually occurs when you try to update your iOS device over the air. To fix this error, try connecting your device to a computer and updating it through iTunes. If that doesn’t work, make sure that your device has enough storage space and a stable internet connection.

  2. “iPhone is Disabled” error message: This error message appears when you enter the wrong passcode too many times. To fix this error, you need to connect your device to a computer with iTunes and restore it. If you have previously synced your device with iTunes, you can restore your device using a backup.

  • Try putting your device into DFU mode and then restoring it.
  1. “No Service” error message: This error message appears when your device is not able to connect to your cellular network. To fix this error, try the following steps:
  • Make sure that your device has a cellular plan and that you’re in an area with cellular coverage.
  • Restart your device and try again.
  • If none of the above steps work, contact your carrier for further assistance.
  1. “App Store is not available” error message: This error message appears when the App Store is experiencing downtime or maintenance. To fix this error, try the following steps:
  • Check the App Store status page to see if there are any known issues.

Cannot copy photos from my iPhone to Windows 11

This error, the scourge of iOS: “Device is unreachable”.

Maybe help articles that you’ll find  tell you to do all of the standard stuff like install a new version of iTunes, update Windows, reboot Windows, Change settings so that  photos are converted on copy.

However, many times none of those are the cause.  iOS can get into a corrupt state in regards to being able to copy files to Windows via Windows Explorer.  The fix to this is to reboot your iPhone (and not Windows).  This very often fixes the issue and allows you to then copy files.

Once files are copying again you might break those file copies into smaller sections such as by folder.  Sometimes copying too much data causes the connection with the iPhone to faulter.

I have water spots that I can’t get off of my shower door, how do I fix it?

Question

I have a shower door that has water spots on it and everything I try to do to fix it doesn’t work.  How do I get the spots off?

Answer

White Vinegar

White vinegar, half and half with water, or neat, should shift the spots, but even better, a glass of white wine rubbed over, will get them off and leave a good shine.  The cheapest wine possible would be the recommend option.

WD-40

WD-40 has been known to be a good cleaner for mirrors and windows with water spots – just apply a bit to the area and run off with a cloth and it should be shiny and clean! There are also many other uses for WD-40 if you are interested!

Vinegar and baking powder

If you mix a 1/4 cup of vinegar with equal amounts of baking powder to create a paste, apply to afflicted area and leave to dry for a short while and rinse off with a damp cloth.

Rub down with newspaper

Rubbing down the area with warm water and using black and white newspaper as the cloth will help to remove the stubborn spots.

I’m getting more hits on my website than AdSense is showing, why is that?

This could be because of a few reasons.

  1. The users visiting your website might have ad blocking software on their browser that prevents the ad from showing.
  2. You don’t have, or don’t have a correctly formatted ads.txt file in the root directory of your site.
  3. Your pages might not yet be indexed by Google and as a result your viewers are not actually getting ads on the pages they are visiting.  Google relies on the pages being indexed so they know that when they sell an advertiser space that it’s in proper context and further that it’s not a topic the advertiser might not want to be associated with.
  4. The hits might be from a search engine crawler.  You might inspect the IP addresses of the counts to determine if this is the case.  If you use the free Cloudflare services for caching and denial of service protection they will also tell you how often the webcrawlers are hitting your site.

Note:  If your site isn’t fully indexed then the best thing you can do is wait, work on getting links back to your site and improving your page rank through good content.  It won’t happen overnight but with work can become viable.

I have TMJ from chewing too much gum, how do I fix this?

Chewing gum too often or for too long can sometimes cause TMJ in people.  You may notice any of the following symptoms:

    1. Jaw is tight on the side you chew gum on.
    2. It’s hard to fully bite down.
    3. There is pain in the jaw at the joint.
    4. You might have ringing in the ear or associated ear pain from the inflammation.

The simplest things you can do are this:

    1. Stop chewing gum for the time being.
    2. Use advil/aleve for the inflammation.
    3. Use a hot pad at the joint of the jaw for 10 minutes a few times a day.  This will help loosen up the joint, tendon and muscles.
    4. Gently massage the joint.
