You might be concerned when you Chevy Traverse indicates that it cannot shift to park. Generally this manifests as the car actually shifting to park but the computer not realizing that it has. However, the car won’t fully power down without the computer recognizing also the shift to park.
The issue occurs due to a connection not being made in the gear shift. One common temporary workaround is to continually click and release the gear shift button. Once the connection is made on one of those taps the error warning will go away (which is how you’ll know it worked).
Unfortunately the actual fix is a replacement of the switch that resides below the gear shift which will run you $400 after parts and labor.
This generally affects the post 2018 Traverse models.
